4th August 2018 - Brno circuit, qualifying day.
Kms today = 246
Kms to date = 6,441
Our landlady delivered our breakfast on a tray. It consisted of hardboiled eggs, cold meats, cheese and bread rolls. We could make our own tea and coffee. All was very satisfactory. We decided to take Mabel's "quick" route to the circuit today so we didn't lose too much time. It was boring and some of the motorway surface was pretty rough. Danny's bike nearly shook to pieces. We arrived at the circuit at around 10:30am. We had no idea of where to go for parking so we just followed the other bikes into the circuit. We ended up inside the circuit and parked on a huge tarred area for €6 for the day each. We changed into shorts etc as it was hotter than a bar steward and headed out to find a good viewing area. We ended up in area 'C' which overlooks a couple of tight corners. It was sloped so not really suitable for our Aldi chairs. Danny and I had brought them but Colin managed to leave his in Melbourne!!! Danny went off to make contact with Jirka Broz who was sponsoring a young Czech rider called Filip Salac in Moto3. He said he could get us passes for the paddock the next day (race day) which was great. We walked around to viewing area "B"and "A" to get an idea of the various aspects. Area "B" didn't have a screen but had a tight right-hander at the end of a straight which could be interesting. We watched FP4, Moto3 & Motogp qualifying. Jack Miller managed to bin it just below us in FP4. He didn't make Q2 qualifying. The front row for the Motogp is Dovizioso, Rossi and Marquez should be a cracker of a race.
Colin wanted to go back to Telc the more direct route rather than take the motorway again. Danny and I took the motorway. We got back to Telc about 45mins ahead of Colin. He was doing well until he took a wrong turn in a small town called Stonarov just up the road. We decided we would take Colin's route tomorrow. I asked the landlady if she could fix the zip on my riding jacket as she advertised that it was a service she could provide. Magically she fixed it in 10 minutes and saved me a fortune in a new jacket. She would not accept any payment which was very generous. Another nice touch by our landlady was free beer each day (3 bottles) and free bottled water. We headed back to the old town for cold beer and food. Eating out in Czech is quite cheap. The meal cost A$57 for the three of us including 6 X 500ml beers.
